Tony Blain City Council 3 Minutes – October 4, 2022, and April 2, 2024

Good evening, my name is Tony Blain, I live in Poway in High Valley with my 4 sons and wife and I decided in October 2022 to run for Poway City Council District 2 because I do not feel like Poway residents are well represented and that our voices are not heard on City Council.  I am against unsupervised and unregulated dense Poway Road and other dense City apartment, condominium, and housing over-development. I have heard from several of you that you were compelled to approve these developments by State laws, but it is a little more complicated than that. The concerns of the people who live in the immediate vicinity of this development, and, in fact, the entire city, were not well heard.

I am for improved Traffic Safety and decreased congestion caused by increased development in Poway. We can improve this.
I am for decreasing the 35% increased 2021-2022 Property Crime and 24% FBI Crime Index. I am leading starting Neighborhood Watch Programs in 100% of Poway neighbordhoods.

I am for Transparency. Developers donate to Carols by Candlelight, Mayor, and Councilmember campaigns, then they vote “Yes” on that development. That is wrong! Members should recuse themselves from any vote for which they receive campaign or Carols money.

I have been a military physician for more than 33 years, formerly the Commanding Officer for the largest Navy Reserve unit in San Diego, Brigade Surgeon for the largest unit in the California National Guard, and Chief Medical Officer of several large healthcare organizations. I know how to lead, work on a team, and get results.

I am for Term Limits. Mayor Vaus knocked on my door in 2011 with a petition against Betty Rexford telling me he was for Term Limits. He changed his mind after he got elected and saw the retirement, medical, and other benefits. We need new blood on the City Council, fresh ideas, better representation of Poway’s demographics. We just got the Poway Term Limits ballot initiative approved by the Poway City Clerk and City Attorney recently and are collecting 4,000 signatures to get it on the November 5, 2024, election ballot.
